On 10 December 2024, the final workshop of ROADMAP2, a 24-month European project funded by DG-ECHO of the European Union, in which ReLUIS was a partner with CI3R, was held at the Civil Protection Department.

ROADMAP2 “euROpean observAtory on Disaster risk and crisis MAnagement good Practices: way ahead” (https://roadmap2.ci3r.it/) has five partners:

  • ICPD Italian Civil Protection Department (coordinator) – Italy
  • CI3R – Italian Center for Research on Risk Reduction (in which, in this specific case, 3 of the 9 Competence Centres operate, namely CIMA, EUCENTRE and ReLUIS) – Italy
  • UiS – University of Stavanger – Norway
  • ADAI – Association for the Development of Industrial Aerodynamics – Portugal
  • UTA – University of Tartu – Estonia

The project aims at:

  • establishing a stakeholder community of experts in both scientific and decision-making fields of civil protection (Community for the European Observatory of Good Practices of civil protection),
  • defining criteria for the identification of good practices for civil protection disaster risk management and scenarios for their assessment,
  • setting up a web-based information tool, called Solutions Explorer, for the collection, classification and consultation of an initial selection of existing good practices
  • disseminating and sharing knowledge through webinars, collaborative workshops, publications, local exercises, website and social media.

The activities of the project, which is fully developed in a multi-risk perspective, are designed to have sustainable results, so that they can be easily linked to established initiatives and institutions at European (e.g.: DG-ECHO’s Knowledge Network) and national (e.g.: civil protection authorities) level.

ROADMAP2 activities and results are organised to achieve two main objectives:

  • Establishing a Community for the European Observatory (CEO) of Good Practices, to improve the knowledge, understanding and replicability of GPs in DRM
  • Knowledge building and sharing through a cycle of seminars & collaborative workshops based on Good Practices and their application in thematic multi-risk scenarios

In addition to the project partners, the workshop was also attended by members of the CEO, who, as mentioned, are international experts with different types of expertise (scientific, operational, civil protection). Moreover, representatives from DG-ECHO participated remotely, in particular Erwan Marteil, head of Unit B.3, which manages the Union Civil Protection Knowledge Network, and Juha-Pekka Jäpölä, ROADMAP2 project officer.
